Tower Apartments, located at 196 Bishopsgate in the heart of the City of London, is a busy serviced apartment and hotel development accommodating both short and long-stay guests. With the lift serving as a critical part of the building's daily operation, maintaining accessibility and minimising disruption throughout the project was essential.
Acute Elevators were appointed to undertake a comprehensive lift modernisation programme designed to improve reliability, enhance passenger experience, and replace ageing equipment that had become increasingly difficult to maintain. The works were completed whilst the hotel remained fully operational, requiring careful planning and close coordination with the site management team.

PROJECT SUMMARY
The modernisation programme focused on replacing key mechanical, electrical, and control components to extend the operational life of the lift whilst improving performance and reliability.
Key elements of the works included:
- Replacement of the existing lift motor with a new high-performance machine.
- Installation of a new lift control panel and associated electrical equipment.
- Complete electrical overhaul of the lift system.
- New car operating panel (COP) with modern push buttons and indicators.
- Replacement of all landing push stations and floor position indicators.
- Upgrading associated wiring and control circuits.
- Testing, commissioning, and certification of all new equipment.
- Careful phasing of works to minimise disruption to hotel guests and operations.
The project was completed over a four-week programme, with all works coordinated around the operational requirements ofthe hotel.
PROJECT Introduction
The existing lift installation had reached a stage where reliability concerns and ageing electrical equipment were beginning to impact performance. The control system and user interface components were becoming increasingly difficult to support, while the motor and associated electrical systems required significant refurbishment or replacement.
Following a detailed site survey, Acute Elevators developed a modernisation solution that would address the underlying reliability issues whilst improving maintainability and passenger experience. The objective was to deliver a modern, reliable lift system without significant disruption to the day-to-day operation of the hotel.
